COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course takes students through the evolution of the classical-era piano and into the modern synthesizer. Students will learn the history of the instrument and learn about notable players. Throughout the course students will focus on reading music, developing proper technique, understanding and applying music theory concepts, as well as how to improvise and even compose original music. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.
