My background in music comes from learning to play in church as a child. I have experimented with and played all bluegrass instrument that has had the disadvantage of not becoming super player on any one instrument but has gave me the ability to teach well all of them. Teaching as long as I have I have evolved and learned in the beginning I didn’t teach much music theory because that isn’t how I learned. I now use a combination of both music theory and just hands on ear training.
My teaching philosophy is simple if you start a student and make sure they have good habits posture use their picks /bows/ fingers etc. so they don’t have any bad habits then if they practice and play as much as they can they will become great players timing is also a big first learning must.
