Bass Guitar: Basics 1 – UC Approved
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to introduce students to the bass guitar and get them passionate about playing the instrument. Students will explore and learn about the bass guitar, proper playing technique, and important figures in bass history. This course will teach students how to read standard notation, tablature, and fingerboard diagrams. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

Bass Guitar: Basics 2 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to further students’ introduction to the bass guitar. This course will guide students through many playing examples composed specifically to help them grasp key concepts and expand their technique so that they are constantly pushing their boundaries. Students will explore various music theory concepts that will inform their musicianship, and they will focus on composing and improvising on the bass. Students will explore styles of music, the evolution of bass playing, and important figures in bass history. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

Bass Guitar: Foundations 1 – UC APPROVED
Bass Guitar: Foundations 1 continues to build upon the foundation established in the Bass Guitar Beginner courses. Students will explore more advanced concepts such as more major scale patterns, minor scales, playing in all 12 keys, chord progressions, ear training, arpeggios, and articulations. Adding an understanding of these aspects of bass playing will enhance your ability to play with a band and make your bass lines even more groovy and irresistible. Students are introduced to famous and influential bassists in order to broaden students’ perspective and understanding of the instrument. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

Students will explore more advanced concepts such as dynamics, expanded range, scalar patterns, intervals, and beginning improvisation. Incorporating these elements will help students take their bass playing to another level. Students are introduced to more famous and influential bass players in order to broaden students’ perspective and understanding of the instrument. Classical Guitar: Basics 1 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students in Classical Guitar: Basics 1 will learn a great deal about the basics of playing the classical guitar, but also about the basics of music in general. This course delves into the history of the classical guitar, showing students how the instrument was developed. Students will learn new songs in every lesson to improve notational reading skills, playing, and ear training. Students will encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

Classical Guitar: Basics 2 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Classical Guitar: Basics 2 builds upon the ideas and concepts taught in Classical Guitar: Beginner 1 and further aids students in mastering the essentials of classical guitar playing. This course continues examining the history of the classical guitar, showing students how the guitar evolved through important composers and performers. Proper playing technique is foundational to the course, and is supported through warm-ups, technical exercises, and playing etudes. Lastly, students will analyze incredible players that inspire personal growth. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

Classical Guitar: Foundations 1 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Classic Guitar: Foundations 1 builds upon topics learned in the Basics courses. Students will dive further into the fundamentals of playing the classical guitar and develop their reading and listening skills to better understand how music is written for their instrument. This course features expanding intermediate techniques to challenge students, such as the free stroke finger technique. Students also examine different guitar styles, including Flamenco and Romantic Era. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make, original compositions, and a skill set to tackle new music.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Classic Guitar: Foundations 2 continues building the fundamentals of playing the classical guitar, as students develop their reading and listening skills to better understand how music is written for their instrument. This course analyzes scale construction for major and minor scales, uses ear training (interval recognition) to help with more efficient reading and learning, and examines important classical guitar figures that shaped the history of the instrument. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make, original compositions, and a skill set to tackle new music.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course takes students through the evolution of the classical-era piano and into the modern synthesizer. Students will learn the history of the instrument and learn about notable players. Throughout the course students will focus on reading music, developing proper technique, understanding and applying music theory concepts, as well as how to improvise and even compose original music. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course furthers the introduction to the wonderful world of keyboarding in an organized and contemporary fashion. By using play-along recordings, students will get used to playing in various styles and feel what it’s like to play with other musicians.
