English 12: Semester 2
Description: In this class, we will be working on expanding our knowledge of English. Specifically, this will include reading poems and stories, and sharpening our writing skills. English, however, is far more than reading and writing. English is all about learning to connect with the viewpoints and experiences of others. People of all ages, races, religions, and backgrounds have contributed to literature, and we are going to learn a lot from studying their words and ideas. Throughout this course, you will develop an understanding of many new concepts. You will have plenty of opportunities to show off the skills you learn through your coursework, quizzes, and exams. You’ll even be able to evaluate your own learning experience through surveys. Specifically, by the end of this course you will understand the following concepts: further understand the extended metaphor “Life is a Stage;” apply strategies for learning the meanings of unknown words; practice expanding your vocabulary; understand how to read more thoughtfully and carefully; apply the Six-Traits model to Your Writing; apply Literary Terms to the Literature You Read; understand figurative language; apply principles of grammar, usage, and conventions to your writing; apply knowledge of proofreading, revising, and copy editing.
