TEACHING STYLE

Since no two people are exactly alike, Mike favors a highly customized, goal-oriented teaching approach. Mike communicates with each student to understand the individual's goals, strengths, weaknesses, learning style, and interests. Mike then tailors song/repertoire choices, technique exercises, and lessons in music theory to match the needs of the individual. Each element works together with the others towards the goal for the week, and each week's benchmark is part of a long term strategy to move past plateaus and reach the next level, whatever that may be for each student. All this must be done while enjoying the instrument and having fun! To this end, Mike is prepared to teach all skill levels in a wide variety of styles ranging through Rock, Jazz, Folk, Country, Pop, and Classical guitar. Mike has a track record of helping students achieve their goals, from students who wish to learn to strum and sing, to those playing in rock bands and wanting to improve their guitar parts, to students auditioning for school jazz bands, and all the way up to preparations for University music school auditions. Whatever the scope, Mike helps students realize, articulate, and achieve their goals with guitar.
