COURSE DESCRIPTION: French Horn: Foundations 1 builds upon skills and technique developed in the beginner courses, looking at repertoire specific to horn that students will need to know to further their playing careers. Students will learn horn parts from symphonies and operas while also exploring the composers and time periods to provide a complete picture of why each work is significant. Students will improve their musicianship through improvisation. Students will gain the necessary musical skills and playing technique to be able to perform more advanced pieces, as well as the comprehension to understand the musical function and importance of each work. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.
