French Horn: Basics 1 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: French Horn: Basics 1 introduces beginner students to the horn in an efficient, gradual, and fun way that will lay a solid foundation for growth on the instrument. Students are preparing themselves for a lifetime of making music and learning the language of music. Lessons cover technique, ear training, music reading skills, and developing critical listening skills. Students observe professional footage through recordings and video, giving them the inspiration to dig into the exercises designed to improve comprehension and musicianship. This course also looks at the history of the French horn’s development, giving students insight into how this instrument functions and why they’re learning to play with good technique. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.
