Drums: Foundations 1 – UC APPROVED
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Drums: Foundations 1 focuses and expands on groove drumming. Students explore adding more texture and substance to grooves by incorporating the bell of the ride for accented patterns. They also explore sixteenth-note based grooves, focusing on new and exciting sixteenth-note bass drum patterns, as well as techniques for playing up-tempo sixteenth-note grooves using alternating hand patterns. They examine the history of Rock and Pop, as well as Disco music. Students can expect to encounter a variety of listening and playing assignments, as well as lesson quizzes and exams, and will create a portfolio of recordings that reflect the progress they make.

- Working instrument (full set: floor tom, rack tom(s), snare drum, bass drum and pedal, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, hihat cymbal)
- Reliable access to a computer and internet
- Recording device for recording assignments (phone, tablet, camera, computer, etc.)
- Drum sticks (suggestion in lesson 1.5)
- Drum Throne (stool)
